At Fighting for Paws, we're opening our doors to volunteers who want to make a difference in the lives of rescue dogs. Whether you have a few hours each week, want to spend time socializing dogs, or would love to help at our community adoption and fundraising events, we need you!
We're a family-run, nonprofit dog rescue based in Nevada City, California. Our days are filled with feeding, cleaning, training, rehabilitating, and finding loving homes for dogs who have been abandoned, neglected, or given up on.
And now, we're inviting our community to become part of that journey.
You don't need experience. You just need heart.
Not every volunteer has worked with rescue dogs before, and that's okay! We'll help match you with opportunities that fit your comfort level, skills, and availability.
Some of our dogs need exercise. Some need help learning to trust people again. Others simply want someone to sit beside them and remind them they're loved.
Even a couple of hours can make a huge difference.
What to expect
We want volunteering to be a positive, rewarding, and safe experience for everyone.
Volunteer visits are scheduled in advance.
New volunteers receive an introduction to our rescue and safety guidelines.
Dogs are assigned based on each volunteer's experience and comfort level.
Volunteers must follow our handling and safety procedures.
Younger volunteers may be able to participate in approved activities with a parent or guardian.
All volunteers must complete an application and any required waivers before beginning.
Can't volunteer in person?
You can still be part of our rescue family! Sharing adoption posts, helping promote fundraisers, collecting supplies, coordinating donations, and encouraging others to support our mission all make an impact.
